DR Aimee Tan

Aimee is a molecular microbiologist who studies microbial pathogens including Streptococcus pneumoniae and Moraxella catarrhalis, two of the major bacterial causes of otitis media. Her work as a Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation research training fellow was carried out at A/Prof Kate Seib at the Institute for Glycomics, Griffith University, where she examined genetic variation in M. catarrhalis and the implications of this for vaccine development. She then moved to the University of Melbourne to join A/Prof Christopher McDevitt’s group, to examine metal homeostasis in S. pneumoniae, and how affects the progression and treatment of bacterial disease.
